Mergers between universities and research institutions in Denmark strengthens the Øresund University

As of January 1st, 2007 the number of member universities in the Øresund University has gone down from fourteen to twelve due to the mergers between a number of Danish universities and government research institutions. The number of students at the member universities remains at 150,000, while the number of researchers has gone up to 11,000 due to the inclusion of five government research institutions. The course catalogue for Øresund Summer University 2007 is now online. This year, the12 universities in the region offer more than 130 summer courses of a very high academic standard over a wide spectrum of disciplines. Moreover, we also offer 10 Øresund Summer University courses, which are special courses, where two or more universities offer the course together.

Øresund Entrepreneurship Academy – Turning University Education into Regional Growth

Øresund Entrepreneurship Academy is a competence centre in entrepreneurship education and a fund for the 12 member universities in the Øresund Region. The Academy is meant to develop new courses, initiatives and schemes to promote entrepreneurship interest among the students of the 12 universities, in order to unite and develop strong competencies and best practices in entrepreneurship education for the universities in the region.

The Academy will create and maintain close collaboration with regional and international business and other innovative organizations. This is done in the hope that the potential of the region and its higher learning institutions can be converted into extensive entrepreneurial growth in the region.  Read more here.

Hessen Global : The Global Studies Internship Program

Hessen Global is a joint project of the Hessen Universities offering students an academic program in English and German that focuses on sustainable development in the UNESCO Biosphere Reservec Rhön.
 
This is an academic program comprising a five weeks international team internship and academic seminars and workshops as well as German language courses, excursions and cultural and sports activities. Hessen Global takes place from July 30 to August 22, 2007. Read more here.


New system for assessment and recognition of foreign degrees for universities in Denmark

The Danish government has introduced a new conversion table for applicants with foreign degrees, diplomas and certificates to selected disciplines at Danish universities. This is due to an esteemed growing imbalance between the recognition of Danish and foreign degrees. These selected studies are i.e. medicine, architecture and veterinary studies.

Some of these measures will have immediate effect, whereas a fundamental reform of the system for assessment and recognition will take place as well and take action from 2010. The purpose of this reform is to establish a just estimation of all applicants. Read more here.


CEMS Intensive Doctoral Seminar in Entrepreneurship

The purpose of this intensive doctoral seminar is to present the latest development in entrepreneurship research. Doctoral students will also have the opportunity to present their own research and have it evalutated by a panel of professors.  Among the lecturers are Nicolaj J. Foss, William Gartner and Gordon Murray.

A new grading system in Denmark

In August 2007 the examination assessments in Denmark will be based on a new 7-point scale. The new grading system is implemented in order to make grades easier to compare internationally, thus, compared to the former 13-point scale, the new 7-point scale is easier to apply to the ECTS grading system. New legislation on tuition fees for foreigners studying in Demark

From August 2006, students from countries outside of the EU/EES have to pay tuition fees when studying at Danish universities. Tuition remains free for students from EU/EES countries, with the exception of a number of MA programmes, which both national and international students have to pay for. Exchange students also study without having to pay a tuition fee. Sweden does not charge fees for students from non EU/EEA countries, but this is likely to change within the next 1-2 years.
